MyspaceIf ever i needed proof that in this internet age there is simply too much great music around to be aware of everything, it was demonstrated superbly by Christopher Rees last night in Leeds. A quick wikipedia search shows that Christopher Rees has been treading the stages of this country and the world since the 1990s, but had never once crossed my radar in all that time. Last night i discovered a talented singer-songwriter hailing from South Wales who genre hopped from 50s style rockabilly in his opener What Walks Outside My Window, through murder ballads on songs such as Mary Lee, and hints of soul and gospel on Heart On Fire and Take My Hand respectively.
Performing alone on electric and acoustic guitar and banjo, the years of performance showed a command of his environment, the right balance of chat and songs, and the ability to hold the attention of the crowd. If you see Christopher Rees listed on your local gig listings i'd recommend wholeheartedly checking him out.
